A reunion. An introduction. A look into the future through the past. An office-style holiday pARTy that doesn't suck. Music. Art. Socializing. Hors-d'oeuvres. Prizes. Fun. You.
Poor Man's High pARTicpated in a holiday gathering like no other right in the heart of Toronto -- Little Italy! The event was produced by Poor Man's High's frontman, auBrey, and brought together like minds and warm souls in the fantastic Super Wonder Gallery. Friends old and new came to talk, dance, eat, groove to the DJ sounds of Andrew "Mental Floss" McCallum, ogle at the gorgeous paintings of local artist Zara Diniz, and watch a variety of live acts including performances by spoken word artist Sharon Mandelbaum, exotic dancer Stacie Noel, songstress Heidi Michelle Thomas, the quirky Frolic Theatre, poet Lisa Richter, the funktastic Brainfudge and, of course, Poor Man's High! We loved celebrating the end of a great year with the 200 good folks who came to the pARTy and look forward to doing so again in future years!

Poor Man's High played a rare Sunday afternoon show in Trinity Bellwoods Park in the Performance Zone of the Queen West Art Crawl! This free, open-air show was a family-friendly event that saw families and friends -- old and new -- gather in the park on a gorgeous fall Sunday afternoon. Good folks picnicked and enjoy the HOT weather with live music and other performances! See http://queenwestartcrawl.com/events/performance-zone/ for info about the others performances that took place.

Poor Man's High returned to The Legendary Horseshoe Tavern on Toronto's downtown Queen West strip for a midweek show. PMH and 3 other awesome bands (HOWLIN CIRCUS, LAMB LION, and THE VOYAGEUR) lit up The Horseshoe for a great audience! No animals were harmed in the making of this party. Livers, brain cells, kidneys and spleens are not animals. ;)
July 8, 2017: Poor Man's High celebrating summer at MÂY
Poor Man's High turned up the heat on a steamy Saturday night in July and laid down a super set of new and classic PMH material at MÂY (876 Dundas St. W). MÂY, a hip, yet unpretentious Vietnamese tapas lounge and soundstage with a great selection of drinks, provided the perfect setting for a night of surprises and funky grooves by PMH alumnus, Jason Hynes, aka The Boogie Man !
April 17, 2017: Poor Man's High getting lucky at the legendary Horseshoe
Poor Man's High played a smoking hot set at the legendary Horsehoe Tavern in Toronto on Easter Monday. Our 12-piece ensemble took to the same stage that such greats as the Rolling Stones, The Tragically Hip and Stompin' Tom Connors, just to name a few, have played, and based on the sizable crowd's response, the new format did not disappoint! This was an extra special performance as we celebrated our alto sax player, Leigh, on Leigh's wedding day!
March 2, 2017: Poor Man's High shone at The Silver Dollar Room!
Poor Man's High invited all cool cats and lively lovely ladies to join us and our showbill mates the jazzy, funky up-and-comers from the Humber Music Program, Stolen Statues, and the whimsical ever-so-fun, Lovers Touch, at the legendary Silver Dollar Room! We had new songs and new moves to share, and judging from the positive audience response we didn't disappoint them for coming out to the Thursday show on a chilly March night. This show was particularly special high energy night for our frontman auBrey as his parents frequented this legendary live music institution in the years leading up to his birth. It was a back to your roots sort of thang, dancing with positive spirits from the past and present!
Edit: Unfortunately, Poor Man's High was one of the last bands to play the Silver Dollar Room as the legendary live music venue after almost 60 years, like so many in Toronto around that time, closed its doors that spring. This made this particular show all the more poignant and special.
November 26, 2016: Flying high in Junction City!
Poor Man's High opened for Ottawa's incredible The PepTides at the smoking hot subterranean Junction City Music Hall! This show was crazy and the audience got more than their money's worth that incredible night, which also featured guest DJ Jason "The Boogeyman" Hynes spinning up some delicious old funky vinyl!!!
September 24, 2016: Live & Unleashed at the Tiger Bar
Poor Man's High went deep into the underground of Toronto hip College Street strip at the Tiger Bar in the heart of downtown Toronto for an intimate upbeat night of song and dance with friends The Love Orchestra, and The HiPlayers Blues Get Down Collective !

June 4, 2016: The Etobicoke Local - The epic continues...
Poor Man's High returned to the Etobicoke Local in south Etobicoke for an hour long set of funky covers and hot originals with serious groove! We opened for John Bell & The Operators, in which our drummer (Sonny Bell) also banged out nothing but the finest blues rock rhythms.
May 28, 2016: Party on the roof!
Poor Man's High played an ultra cool rooftop patio deck in the heart of downtown Toronto. The private function was in honour of some very special people's returns to Toronto. The show went off extremely well, with an entire neighbourhood block getting in on the PM'sH grove! We hauled our own entirely self-contained party rig to the space, and schlepped said gear up and down 2 flights of stairs in spite of temps in excess of 30 degree Celsius with Toronto's notorious summer humidity. In spite of the workout, this show, our unpaid gift to the honourees, was one of our favourite gigs to date, and will go down in the history books as truly epic in so many ways! The show also introduced 2 new back up singers (Kim and Lady V) to our line up, a move that rounded out our sound, and was well received. Thanks to everyone involved with making it happen!
APRIL 9, 2016 - 9:30 PM: The Armoury
Poor Man's High brought our grooves to the super secret, arts collective warehouse studio space called The Armoury, which is located near Toronto's Liberty Village on April 9th. We were honoured to play this seriously cool venue, and were excited to open for the internationally acclaimed Dr Draw!
To all those who crammed the Armoury and danced your asses off, THANK YOU! Also, thanks very much for generously filling the hat that was passed around. Our practice space's beer fridge was filled for weeks thanks to you!
March 6, 2016: The Etobicoke Local - Round 1
Poor Man's High kicked off our 2016 season with a new line up including Scott Fairbarin on bass and Brittany Craig on tenor saxophone. we rocked the Local pretty hard, and the new line up was extremely well received! The Local crowd liked us so much that we were asked to come back and rattle their dance floor again ASAP, which we did in a couple of months later in May (see above).
